Tigran Martirosyan was introduced to martial arts at the age of 4 and earned his black belt at the age of 16 in full contact karate and sanda wushu, training under head trainer and mentor Ken Arutyunyan; he has a 3rd dan (degree) received by International Full Contact Karate Federation (IFCKF). Martirosyan has become a well-rounded martial artist with over 25 years of experience with multiple accomplishments in several sport disciplines, including full-contact karate, sanda wushu, muay thai, boxing, free-style wrestling, and mixed martial arts.
At the young age of 12, Martirosyan became a grand champion in the US Karate Championships held in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 2007, he was invited to compete at the International Full Contact Karate Federation tournaments held in Yerevan, Armenia and won two gold medals and also became grand champion amongst all first place gold medalists. Martirosyan went on to win multiple muay thai and boxing titles over the years and began learning wrestling with Olympic medalist Martin Berberyan with hopes of entering the UFC. Martirosyan quickly became one of the top MMA prospects. As an established boxer and muay thai fighter, Martirosyan won his debut MMA fight via arm-bar submission in 2nd round.
Martirosyan was quickly promoted to compete for a main event title match for his 3rd MMA fight, where he won and became the 145lb champion at 3-0, becoming the first and only amateur in California to win via knee-bar submission and in just the 1st minute of 1st round.
Fighting Career Complications - Start of Thruline
Shortly after Martirosyan’s 4th MMA fight, he was offered to compete and debut in Bellator, however, his MMA career fell short after sustaining a traumatic blood clot injury to the leg during preparation for re-match between ex-UFC athlete Alberto Morales; Martirosyan’s leg injury required two invasive bypass surgeries. Martirosyan directed his focus and attention to boxing due to his leg injury, where he won 3x amateur boxing WBC medals and a state belt. In 2016, he became a boxing contender for the US Boxing Olympic team trials in both Nashville, Tennessee and Memphis, Philadelphia and became quarter finalist; he competed alongside well-known athletes today such as Rolly Romero, Shakur Stevenson, Abraham Nova, Frank Martin and more.
Martirosyan’s injuries, particularly his career ending leg trauma led him to pursue the medical field where he received his Master of Nursing degree as a Registered Nurse, working at St. Joseph Medical Center.
Martirosyan has a strong passion for passing on his knowledge of his life’s dedication of these sports. Martirosyan has a lifetime experience as an athlete from the age of 4, competed in over 100 competitions (amateur, national and international, semi and professionally sanctioned), and has instructed over thousand’s of students since teaching from just 15 years old. Through his teachings, Martirosyan hopes to instill the same discipline, work ethic, professional growth, and confidence in his students, both in sports and in life.
